Kitesurfing

Discovered by windsurfers 15 years ago, La Ventana has become the perfect kitesurfing spot thanks to its steady winds from November to March and to its L-shape sandy beach with sideshore winds.

Beginners can start safely from the main campground launching site and end up downwind in the bay on the sandy beach and walk back.

WIND

The best season for the wind is November to March when the wind usually blows daily from 11:00AM to 5:00PM at 15-20 knots.

WATER

Water temperature is around 70 degrees F during the winter, but because of the wind, a full wetsuit (3/2 or 4/3) is generally recommended. From March to November, a shorty is more than enough.
Water is usually flat to little choppy with a occasional swell breaking in front of Palapas Ventana, La Camaronera reef or La Bufadora reef.

LAUNCHING AREAS

There are 3 main launching areas

• Baja Joe launching area
  Where the action takes place. Can be pretty crowded.
• La Ventana main campground
  In front of Kitemasters kiteschool, in the south part of the campground.
  Perfect for beginners. Ask Kitemasters instructors for the designated area.
• Hot Springs / Aguas Calientes
  North of the El Sargento and El Sotol.
  Perfect for downwinders all the way to the end of the bay.
  You will need a car to get there.

You can also arrange for a boarder cross to/from Isla Cerralvo (7 miles) with Palapas Ventana (114 0198 - http://www.palapasventana.com).
